I realize any type of rankings should be taken with a grain of salt, but I couldn't help but laugh at Peter King's recent quarterback ratings. While Eli Manning hasn't exactly established himself as a "franchise quarterback," he's certainly better than the 23rd ranking King gave him. To even claim that quarterbacks like Vince Young (Tennessee), Jeff Garcia (Tampa Bay), Jon Kitna (Detroit), Matt Schaub (Houston) and Michael Vick (Atlanta) are better than Manning is a joke!
Looking at the very statistics King used to make his rankings, you can see that Manning should be ranked higher than at least 10 of them. Breaking it down even further, he has more wins in the last two years than 16 of the quarterbacks ranked ahead of him, a better touchdown/interception ratio than 14 ranked ahead of him and more passing yards than 17 ranked ahead of him.
What is it about this guy that people just can't wrap their minds around? He wins, throws for a lot of yards, throws more touchdown than interceptions and has improved (in almost every statistical category) dramatically over the last three years.
"Eli Manning, who could playing for two jobs this year (his own and Tom Coughlin's), enters the pop charts at number 23. He'll need to be feistier and significantly more accurate, neither of which I am confident will happen, to save his career in the Meadowlands," King wrote.Playing for his job? Really? I don't think so. The Giants have a ton invested in Manning and even if he totally bombed out (which he won't), he would still be New York's starting quarterback in 2008.

It's all good, the Giants play there best when they are critized and all the writters write them off. The stats show Eli is a good QB and he is still young. If his last name wasn't Manning he probably would be considered the best young QB but I guess he will have to wait until he is a top 5 QB to get any credit. But I'm not worried because that should take about 1 more year.

I've watched every single snap of Eli's career and he at worst belongs in the 16-20 range. No way are Cutler, Schaub, Young, Leinart, Losman, and Romo better than Eli as of now. No way should old vets like Garcia, Favre, McNair, and Delhomme, all who may be without a job next season be better. No way should Pennington, Vick, and Big Ben be ahead of Eli. But there are a lot of things wrong with this list. Cutler, Rivers and Young in the Top 10 is a disgrace. Tony Romo ahead of guys like Donovan McNabb shows the media-hype of Romo is still strong. Ranking first-time starter Matt Schaub at #19 is just ridiculous considering he's ahead of a host of starters. Peter King is probably going to make fun of himself by mid-season with these rankings, like he does with 95% of his pre-season articles.
