ESPN Bans Kobayashi Puke

If you want to watch Takeru Kobayashi regurgitate at yesterday's Hot Dog Eating Contest, you'd better watch it here:

Because you won't see it on ESPN.

On ESPN Radio this morning, Doug Gottlieb said management at the Worldwide Leader has ordered the staff not to show replays of Kobayashi throwing up at the end of the competition.

"There was an edict last night to stop showing the regurgitation," said Gottlieb, filling in for Mike Greenberg on Mike and Mike in the Morning.

Co-host Mike Golic asked, "We can't show that?" and Gottlieb replied, "We can't show the puke."

Golic said, "I've got an issue with that." So do I. Vomiting is a part of competitive eating just as concussions are a part of football, and ESPN shouldn't sugarcoat the truth.

Who cares? So they're not showing the puke. Comparing that to concussions in the NFL is ridiculous and inaccurate. It's not sugarcoating anything. Puking isn't hazardous to his health, concussions are. Besides, ESPN's owned by Disney, what do you expect? I honestly can't believe that you compared his puking to concussions. Unbelievable.

They showed the highlights yesterday while I was sitting down eating watermelon.

Sorry, the last thing I thought I'd see on ESPN was puking. I'm glad they are going to quit showing it.

Don’t want to sugarcoat the truth? How about if in between the puking sessions on ESPN they show commercials of kids in underdeveloped countries so malnourished that they’re brain damaged? They could use the Disney theme song “It’s a Small World.”

Competitive eating isn’t a sport. It’s an affront to humanity.

Hey Sid,

Kobayashi donates $250,000 to hunger relief in the Sudan after every championship he's got. That's about $240,000 more than the cost of the hotdogs that these contestants ate. Also, the eating federation donates about 90 percent of the proceeds it makes that day to the same cause. Stop being an idiot.

Football is a joke: steroids and cocaine-use are basically tolerated by the NFL Player's Association, knee-injuries cripple players for the rest of their lives, and now evidence that head-to-head-butting can lead to early depepression, Alzheimer's, and suicide. No one should call Competitive eating a joke, unless they're going to throw in boxing and bicycling also.
