On January 11, ESPN First Take host Dana Jacobson attended a roast for Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic of Mike and Mike in the Morning fame. What she said there has been the subject of much controversy. Citing "some news and sports websites" as its source, the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights says that Jacobson said, "F*** Notre Dame," "F*** Touchdown Jesus," and finally "F*** Jesus." The Catholic League says Jacobson has e-mailed the following apology: "My remarks about Notre Dame were foolish and insensitive. I respect all religions and did not mean anything derogatory by my poorly chosen words."
That apology would seem to both confirm that Jacobson said the words attributed to her and satisfy those who think she should apologize for those words. But if you think it's over there, you don't know anything about the Catholic League. They're going to make an issue out of this, and I have no doubt that Jacobson will have to make a more public apology.
But I really, really hope ESPN doesn't do anything more than reprimand Jacobson and tell her to apologize publicly. Jacobson does excellent work on First Take (as I've written before, her interview with Pacman Jones in August was nothing short of brilliant), and it would be ridiculous if a few poorly chosen words at a roast overshadowed her fine career.
Ultimately, it was a celebrity roast. Such events are supposed to be ribald. If Jacobson crossed a line, she did so without intent to offend, and she has already apologized. That should be the end of it.
UPDATE: ESPN Suspends Dana Jacobson One Week for Saying 'F--- Jesus' at Roast

If she had made a racial slur, or a comment about Allah she would have been fired. Jesus and Christians take another hit and we are to just turn the other cheek.

Mike, the Tiger Woods situation was far different than this. Both comments were in poor taste but the anchor that said "lynch" did not mean harm plus I didn't sense any malice from her. Mrs. Jacobson, on the other hand, was totally crass! Aside from her mentioning Jesus, using the F-word in any setting especially when you are a professional anchor is unacceptable! As someone who works in the media field, that's grounds for automatic dismissal to use that kind of language on air.
To Joe Bell, that isn't "black talk", its foul talk and it shouldn't be classified by race. Come to my workplace where it is mostly white and they drop the f-bomb daily!

Well I am Catholic too and I say this is all nonsense. Where was all of this when our priests and nuns were busy molesting our children?????? It may sound wrong to those people that believe in Jesus, but she basically has the right to say anything thing she wants to. For all of those that are offended and think she is going to burn in hell for it,well then let the "fires of hell take care of it" and go on with your business. She said she was sorry and the church needs to go on with its business of collecting money every month from those that still attend to pay off all these settlements
for a far worse crime committed against children.
Just remember every week when you drop the envelope in the basket that the money may go to some person that was raped by one of the people that give you confession or mass every day. THATS what I would be worried about. The church needs to pick its fights and this isn't one of them.

Wow, can you say double standard. A white man says far less and is run out of town by the Black community. Accepting this new acceptance of a poor choice of words is taking Political Correctness to a whole new level. You can only critize a Christan Religion, you can only do it if you are a Women, otherwise off with your head.

1) A roast has, for a long time now, been a forum to be as irreverent and profane as you can possibly get at the expense of the "roastee". People who attend them know this and expect it. Therefore no offense taken. It is a form of entertainment that is clearly not for everyone. If you weren't there, (and not that i was), you can't possibly judge what was said or how it was taken.
2) As far as the Catholic league goes, ( being raised and being a non practicing catholic based on their own hipocrisy), don't they have enough to keep them busy? What with coming up with more money to throw at the problem that went on in their churches for far too long that they did nothing about until caught red handed. They built the biggest glass house of them all.

The Notre Dame lunatic Anti-Semetics,anti-UM bigots, and anti-Women sexists LOST. They hope was to get the "Jewish UM Aluma Woman on Espn" fired not because thwey have a scintilla of proof that she said anything remotely anti-Catholic, she apparently did NOT. Witnesses in the audience came forward and have stated she never said "F Jesus" at all. The ND MOB "lunatic Fringe" jealous of UM , Jews, and yes ESPN for accurately joining ALL the other media for chastising non diverse ND football factory as the "racist institution" that it is, were hoping to blacken the eyes of the targets of their Notre hatred and evil jealousy. They failed. Free Speech lives, Screw ND and its hypocrisy and sexism and racism. I repeat ; YOU GO DANA; SCREW ND. Yes it was a REOAST people. No she should not have been using the "F" word against ND but that aside she did NOTHING wrong. She has already apologized for , basically, using the F word against UM rival ND. Next time she'll just say "SCREW ND" ! (ROTFWL)! The Damester rat faced bully coward monsters tried to get that FILM from ESPN; THEY LOST. They tried to proove she EVER said F Jesus, the liars of Dame could NOT do so. Their gossip, libel, innuendo against this innocent successful Media journalist with a UM pedicree is disgraceful not just because it was asimed at UM, but at a JEW and a nice woman to boot. These racist ND bigots owe the innocent Dana a HUGE apology for rushing to judgment and smearing her based on a lying liar of an incredible internet site which for the record it HAD NO PROOF of its hearsay speculation. This only snowballed because of the sinful hatrd of too many Damesters who rushed to Judgment against this innocent because she is Jewish...a successful woman, a UMalum, and/or works for an honest MEDIA organization ESPN that has -with honesty and integrity- joined the American public and ther other media in castigating ND as the "racist institution" that thhe ND football factory of thugs truly is. May Yahweh bless ESPN, UM, Women, and this innocent professional Jewish sports journalist for all the spewed ND crud and lies by "the lunatic fringe" of Wacked out ND cyber "fan" sites. ESPN won, Dana won, and free speech won. Yes, of course ND SUCKS! like Boxoffice RUDY(SUCKS) Screw ND and its liars and hypocrites ! Both the saner elements in the ND administration, ESPN, and those who matter (fair minded honest people) have accepted Dana's sincere apology for, essentially, using the coarse "F" word against a rival school. End of story. The ND fanatics who tried to ensure she lost her job and ESPN lose their FCC license arfre disappointed and must now crawl back under the slimy rocks they live under as befitting Neanderthals that those anti_semites and sexists are at ND.Case closed.

The problem seems to be that she may not believe in Jesus. Which is her right. This sounds like the atheists crying about people showing their Xmas displays . They cry about everything and so do all the holy rollers. It is free speech . Who cares if all the holy people are offended? Who cares if non believers are offended.? AND I couldn't care less if Sharpton rolled over and died ! Maybe this woman doesn't believe in this psalm or that one or even believe in a man made book that gives all these quotes. If all these schools and churches that are complaining about this are so sensitive maybe they shouldn't have sports tems so religion can't be part of a football game? This is all blown out of porportion as usual. It is one group against another.
Remindsme of the cop that had a neighbor arrested because he heard her swear at her toilet for over flowing. Freedom of speech folks after all you are allowed on here to berate her and send her to hell, so maybe she should be able to sue you for your words? Hmmm sue all of us for damning her to hell? Not a bad idea.

anyone who believes that Jesus does not exist or was man made will find out differently on judgement day when they stand before Him and answer for such comments and calling Christ a queer and the remarks that has caused this ruckus. Christ gave his life on the cross that we could be saved but He doesn't make us serve Him.It is our choice if we deny our Saviour and live for the devil. When you stand before Christ on judgement day it will be to late for you to repent and you will spend eternity in hell. And this will be your choice because you denied Him and chose the devil as your master. May you come to the saving knowledge of Christ before it is to late.

All you Non-Catholics: How many people do you know that are in need go to the Catholic Charities or the WIC program for help? ( WIC is for Anyone with Children of low income.)Catholic Charities is for people that need help with rent, and utilities or any other need. What will happen to all you non-catholics if the Catholic charities and WIC went only to the Catholics! You will have to find help some where else. Good luck with the government if you make .20 over the limit.

I was at the roast. And yes, Dana dropped the "F" bomb on several occasions when ragging on Notre Dame but at no time, at least to my ears, did she utter the phrase she was suspended for. Granted I cuss like a sailor and at times I was a little uncomfortable with her rantings, but hey...it was a roast. If you think she was bad, you should have heard some of the others.
Why did it take a week for this situation to come to light? Perhaps the Cathloic League needs to watch the entire roast and see what else offends them. Have we gotten to PC? And the Catholic church wonders why their numbers are going down.

What this woman said is borderline blasphemy. Christians all over the world should stand up for Christ the way he did for us. Many people say Christ is not real. I say this "if they're right about Jesus being fake I'm just wasting some of my time here on Earth, however, if the Bible is right and Jesus is real(which he is by the way), they're going to spend eternity in Hell. That's not a chance I'm willing to take with my soul. I don't care about being called "foolish" or "gullible". Those words don't hurt me or offend me. I actually feel sorry for the people who believe that. I've read the Bible and I believe it. I'm comfortable with that. The time is now for all Christians to come together for God and Jesus. Quit letting people use Jesus, God, and Christians as a whipping post, even if they say they're doing it in jest. It's not right. We should forgive her, but she needs to be held accountable for her actions. Believe it or not, she will be. Either here on Earth or else in Heaven when she stands before God on Judgement Day.

I've never lowered myself to post anything on these pathetic boards even though I sometimes get a chuckle out of the ludicrous nature of some of them and am abhorred by the number of people who post their opinions who can't spell or structure a sentence properly. However, I feel compelled to respond to #16's comments. You had me at first, I must say. I got a real giggle out of your opening statement. However, the remainder of your comments made me sick to my stomach and when I saw your screen name, I about fell off my chair. I truly hope you don't honestly feel that way, but in case you do, I will be praying very diligently for your soul. Jesus IS real (His body was never found because He ascended into Heaven) and God DID create man. Please open your mind and heart to the ONLY one who can save you!! Lastly, Jesus was by no means gay, biggoted, or a pedophile!! Shame on you!!
