In lieu of actually watching the ESPYs, I swung by AA and was perusing the list of items that were included in the VIP gift bags. It is an insanely long list of plus spa items, free golf rounds, video games, stakes in racehorses (hellooooo, PETA!) and trips to both the Richard Petty and Rock and Roll fantasy camps. All very cool stuff.
What really stood out to me though, is that ESPN is handing out to its ESPY VIPs -- primarily athletes mind you -- a free breathalyzer from Alcomate.
The AlcoMate Premium combines advanced PRISM (Pre-calibrated Replaceable Intelligent Sensor Module) technology, professional accuracy and modern design into a convenient, easy-to-use device. Now, perhaps I'm missing the boat on this one, and the AlcoMate Premium is all the new hotness/rage/etc. And I would imagine they are pretty nice gifts ... for people who have the propensity to pound a lot of booze and then get behind the wheel of a car.
And not to hop on a high horse or anything here, but it seems kind of silly to give away a breathalyzer in the same bag as you give away a gift certificate to Margaritaville Cargo. To me, it's essentially like saying, "Hey! Rich athlete! You're going to drive drunk anyway, might as well make sure you're legal!" Or maybe it's not and I'm overreacting.

Maybe they thought that if an athlete had actual proof that they weren't "alright" to drive, they will call a cab.

That would require rational thinking and logical follow-through, something many athletes seem to lack.

If they're legal, then they're not drunk
Take Magnum's pic down right now, if you can't make that basic logical connection, then you don't deserve to represent the magnificent mustachioed man

It seems pretty simple to me why they would put breathalyzer in a gift bag. ESPN does not want the negative press of an athlete who left their award show or after party and gets a DUI or in an accident. If that were to happen, atleast they could say we attempted to give them a breathalyzer. Im just suprised that all these celebrities with so much money would rather take a chance of a DUI instead of hiring a driver for a night.

Tuned in the ESPYS,and thought I mistakenly turned on the BET or naacp awards. We shouldn't be praising the radical black athletes from the 68' Olympics. I'm surprised the Kenyan didn't show up to do a little campaigning. But then again the black participants took care of that themselves. What a joke !
