So what was Ukhov's problem? It hasn't been reported in the English-language media, but in other countries the stories say that he was jumping under the influence of Red Bull and vodka. Here's a very rough translation of the first two paragraphs of this Norwegian news article:
The rest of us would drink Red Bull under competition, but a Swedish track official says one competitor drank the Red Bull with vodka. ...Ukhov, of course, finished last in the 12-man high jump competition.
Russian high jumper Ivan Ukhov is one of the top jumpers in the world , but he appeared drunk during the entire competition.

His condition is even clearer from another video linked below. It is shot behind him. At least he had a good concentration before the attempt, heheh.

This is the reason why I hate NBC's biased coverage of the Olympics. Not only do we have to wait to watch events that were completed 12 hours earlier, but Bob Uselass and his crew would never report on a drunk Russian high jumper. I love the part when he pushes away the arm of the track official. Stay thirsty my comrads. Captain + cola--It's new.

It took place at the Lausanne Grand Prix, not at the Olympics.

Yeah Mad Mat, can't ya read?? It wasn't the Olympics. And, there was a delay in covered events at the Olympics because there was a 12 HOUR TIME DIFFERENCE you dolt! LMAO

Bob, the reason for the delay was not because of the 12hr difference, it was because NBC wanted to show the events in Prime Time=revenues from the commercials. Delaying showing an event worked in the 80s, but it just pissed me off now. As soon as you go online all in info is there for you. At the moment, I live in Germany and my daughter and I got up at 4AM to watch M. Phelps and others. Absolutely fantastic to see everything live, it's like you're sharing the moment with them. I truly am going to miss European sports coverage when we move back to the States.
