Not everything was a fail on Michael Phelps SNL appearance. For instance, Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton:
Also not being a total fail was the Michael Phelps Diet skit, which included Jared Fogle.
On the other hand, the Charles Barkley show? Not good. Difficult to tell whose impersonation was the worst. Was it Barkley? Was it Bella? Or was it Phelps doing Phelps?
In fact, the only real saving grace of the show was the digital Space Olympics short by Andy Samberg. And even that wasn't all that great.
When Samberg can't make you laugh, you know you have a loser on your hands.

Sure he messed up a couple words... but really, he had no funny lines to deliver. I think the fault lies with the writers... they should have been more clever.

If this guy couldn't swim, nobody would give him the time of day. He looks like a spokesman for special ed>

Hey Jerry, of course no one would know him if he wasn't a good swimmer... no one would know Britney Spears if she wasn't a good (well, decent) singer, no one would know Michael Jordon if he wasn't a good basketball player, and no one would know Brad Pitt if he wasn't a good actor (and let's face it, HOT!). So what's your point? He has a talent that you don't have and I don't see anyone asking you to host any big shows like SNL. I think my attitude toward you is coming from the "special ed" comment because that's just wrong on so many levels... first of all, I'm sure you're no looker, but that doesn't mean you have the right to make such a rude comment. i have a 3 year old little girl in Special ed because of a disability and it really isn't funny throwing that around. I just want you to know that for future reference.

I dont think he was bad at all... what do these armchair critics expect from someone who is doing this for the first time?

Don't blame Michael Phelps, SNL has not been funny for a long time. He is a class act, SNL is a sinking ship, good thing Phelps can swim. LOL

those weren't that bad ... i've seen worse on SNL .... he's a swimmer NOT a comedian! they're supposed to help him be funny by writing funny scripts .... if the scripts aren't funny ... how's he supposed to be .... i think he did pretty good though!

I think that Phelps did great. He's no actor, but he did well for what he had to work with. it seems as if his fame has come on quite quickly and he's probably trying to adjust still. I think he just seemed a bit out of place, but he tried. As far as the Tina Fey as Sarah Palin skit, HILLARIOUS! I'm a big McCain/Palin supporter and I still found it funny! That was the big saving grace in the whole show. Fantastic!

Michael Phelps is an amazing athlete and nobody can deny that. So what, he's not an actor, nobody ever said he was! When someone gets 9 gold medals in at Olympic game, then maybe they can criticize!

He is totally hot and amazing. He is cute acting silly, stupid, funny, not funny, retarded, frightened, drunk and even on the toilet.
I love him and so do most women (who like sex) in the USA.
GO PHELPS.

Michael did good for the first try. It's always better to try something better or new. Some people need to realize that the more you criticize someone, the stronger you make them become.

Yes, Michael is still the man of the hour for SNL. You wouldn't made such comment whether good or bad if you didn't watch him, right? Bcuz we are all curious on what he's gonna be like doing this new stuff. Bcuz he rock's America and he's a nice guy and we all love him.

He's just a kid in a new environment. He did fine considering comedy is not his forte, I have seen much much worse on SNL in the past. I like what Kelli had to say- Congrads to Michael-I just hope he doesnt let the pressure of the media ruin his attitude. He can sure swim though! NO ONE can talk bad about that...
