That kicker was Taysom Hill of Highland High School in Idaho, and since Hill is an excellent quarterback in addition to being the school's kicker, the opposing team, Pocatello High School, got a great idea: Hit him, hard, after every kickoff.
Now Pocatello's coach is in trouble.
From the Idaho State Journal:
Officials with School District 25 placed Pocatello High coach Tom Harrison on administrative leave Wednesday. Harrison has denied any wrongdoing. The on-field officials did not penalize Pocatello on the play.
Harrison said he would never tell one of his players to go out and hurt someone.
"We've used that play on kickoffs lots of times in the past, and nothing like this has ever happened," he told the Idaho State Journal. "Not once did anyone on our coaching staff tell any of our players to go out and hurt somebody. That's not what we're about. We would never do that."

thats a pretty dick move, to bad the kicker couldnt drill that guy running at him and have his players get the ball back for an onside kick
Perhaps no one told Coach Assbag that the bright lights were in Boise, not Pocatello . . .
What would've been funnier? Follow-through to the pills. GET OFF ME, BITCH!!!!!
what do you expect from dumb midwest hicks. 1 year of advancement in the midwest has the equivalent of 5 on the coasts
You must be from the Midwest, you don't even understand you complemented the area you were trying to disparage.
Umm, Idaho is not in the Midwest.
Speaking of dumb hicks.
When i was a little tyke i always dreamed of moving to the midwest to live. Maybe grow some corn or something. But now, according to Tommy, apparently I have lived in the midwest all my life :) But where is the corn??
it in Idaho. Last time I looked at a map it was near the coast!!! try reading a map before you blast the midwest!!!!
Did anyone see any flags on the play? It's a legal play. This is why your star player shouldn't be kicking off. Highland could have designated a blocker to protect the kicker, but the coach would rather have had an extra tackler.
Tomm Harrison and his football teams have always been big on cheapshots, even back to his days at Snake River. I don't believe for a second that Harrison and his coaching staff would never encourage their players to go out and hurt the other team, that's thier calling card.
Well, it really depends how you read that statement. Either:
The west/east coast takes 5 years to advance in something compared to the Midwest. A hypothetical example to illustrate this would be the coast took 5 years to create the hybrid car, while the Midwest took only a year. (How you read it)
Or, the west/east coast has advance in 5 years compared to to the Midwest. A hypothetical example to illustrate would be the coast has 5 years of hybrid car technology, while the Midwest only has a year of hybrid car technology. (Probably how he wrote it)
So, essentially, what it comes down to is: how long an advancement takes or how advance something is. Personally, I prefer the latter of the two. :D
Oh, just wanted to add as well, let's try not to rush into writing negative, nonconstructive comments before taking the time to try to read and understand what a person wrote.
Also, I would consider you someone from the Midwest considering you used the wrong "compliment." Your "complement" is to make something complete or whole. But, hey, I know what you meant. :D
i dont really like highalnd much anyway, and i dont really see anything illegal in that play like david said. and i also dont appreciate people calling other people from the midwest dumb hicks, and technically idaho isnt in the midwest its in the west, aloso a guy from idaho invented the tv
When i was a little tyke i always dreamed of moving to the midwest to live. Maybe grow some corn or something. But now, according to Tommy, apparently I have lived in the midwest all my life :) But where is the corn??
Unless the play is illegal, the kicker is fair game.
Sorry if the pu$$ies on the coasts have trouble with this.
Maybe you "coasters" should stick to playing field hockey and tennis. :-)
Nice cheapshot on the "Midwest" by the way, but look at a map before you open your yap -- Idaho is about as Midwestern as Las Vegas. In fact, "progressive" Colorado is even MORE Midwestern.
But who expects anyone on the coasts to be educated enough to know that. Too busy snorting coke, getting botox, and planning drive-bys I guess.
this is a stupid discussion, bunch of dumb @$* F**KUPS
The act of blocking someone is not illegal...true. However, as a HS official, if I saw a player do this, I would immediately throw a flag for unnecessary roughness and recommend that the player be ejected from the game. The only point of that play was to injure the kicker. He is not a threat to make a play in that situation. If you think that lighting up a defenseless kicker is a legitimate play, then your level of sportsmanship is about as high as this coach's.
That's true about unnessesary roughness. This is a good example of a play that would draw that that type of flag. Additionally, that blocker on the receiving team is "offsides" as he crosses the line to "take out" the kicker. The official at the receiving line missed it.
Hey, it is an illegal hit. NFHS rules state that you have to give the kicker five yards after the kick to engage, and or if the ball hits the ground or another player, than the kicker is fair game. Obviously, the kicker went like two and a half yards and got blasted. Should of been a flag.
It would be unfortunate to ruin the career of any player over one game. Anyone who can't admit that this is a blatant attempt to injure Highlands' star player is simply without concience. My understanding is that Taysom Hill is already being considered by NFL scouts; if he would have been permenantly injured as a result of this injury Poky may have had a lawsuit on their hands.
As for the dumb hicks from the midwest comment...ever heard of the tv?? That was invented by a guy plowing his field in Idaho. Pretty much all our current electronics technology has evolved from this. (But I guess you would know that since you are so brilliant already.)
