American Gladiators Revived on YouTube

Text Size A A A

The above video shows the introduction to the first season of American Gladiators, which originally aired in 1989. And although that particular clip was just uploaded to YouTube by some American Gladiators fan who wanted to share it with the world, we'll soon be able to watch old episodes of American Gladiators restored in all their glory as part of a new arrangement between YouTube and MGM.

The New York Times reports that YouTube will announce an agreement Monday to show some full-length television shows and films from MGM.

From the Times article:
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios will kick off the partnership by posting episodes of its decade-old "American Gladiators" program to YouTube, along with full-length action films like "Bulletproof Monk" and "The Magnificent Seven" and clips from popular movies like "Legally Blonde." These will be free to watch, with ads running alongside the video.
The arrangement apparently only calls for the old American Gladiators to be shown on YouTube, and not the new version that began re-airing this year. But that was the superior version of American Gladiators, and it's good to see that it's being brought into the 21st Century.
