Pete Thomas of the Los Angeles Times reports that Lusk, who was from Temecula, died in a hospital in San Jose, Costa Rica, late Monday night, surrounded by his wife, his parents, his mother-in-law and father-in-law and several fellow riders.
Rider Myles Richmond, who also participated in the event in Costa Rica, told ESPN.com his version of what happened:
The event went on. I actually made top four in the finals, so we had to ride again. I couldn't go out there and do my regular run, so I just basically went out and did some whips. The riders were just in disbelief. We all know how tough Jeremy is and we were just trying to stay positive, but it was tough. We knew how bad his injury was, but we just didn't want to believe what had just happened. ... I thought that if anyone was invincible, it was Jeremy.Lusk was 24 years old.

RIP Jeremy! You will be missed by all those who knew you, you inspired so many!
I am costarrican and saw this live. Very tragic for this to happen here in our country. Our most sincere condolences to the Lusk family.
Jeremy lusk will be missed by the people who knew and by the people who didn't know him he was a big insperation to everyone R.I.P Jeremy lusk you will be missed.
It is disturbing and sad to hear of this. My condolences to the family. This however is not an accident, this is the result of a daredevil trying to impress a crowd of people trying to cheat death by pushing a machine to do more than it is capable of. As long as people pay money to see events like this, the stunts will continue to get more ridiculous and dangerous and unfortunately, more talented and gifted daredevils will die trying to impress the crowds.
A sad story. I hope it's some consolation to his family that he died doing what he loved.
Seriously - You should really remove this video from the post out of respect for Jeremy.
It is sick, but maybe someone will see it and think about it before they put themselves in the same position. At least he isn't living retarded in a nursing home like hundreds of others that made the same decision as him...... oh..... at our cost, of course
I agree with you 100% , Why remember him like that when its better to remember him alive.
i agree to take off that tragic video. no sense seeing it.
Dust 26; Out of respect for the family UTUBE is NOT the way for any of us as fans to see anyone go out. My son rides MX and seeing this is gut wrenching to say the least. No matter how many posts are here will not bring back this youthful spirit. Knowing he passed away doing what he loved won't help when his son is a teenager and he isn't here to give him the "Dad" talk. I replied to you today because you were the ONLY person whom agreed that some of this is CRAP and yes, people are making $$ over our losses. I think for the fans, family and everyone who loves and has ever loved sport, we DO NOT want to ever see the deaths live of those we love!
Thanks for your comments today!

I agree with Dust 26 this video should be removed.
ya totally agree with dust26.... You will be loved and missed.............R.I.P Jeremy
It's tragic but when they are out there doing these crazy stunts it's going to happen eventually. I am suprised it don't happen more often. NO helmet or protection can save you from a wicked crash like that.
are you a jerk off..keep your dumb comment to yourself...jeremy was a PROFESSIONAL STUNT RIDER with all his gear on...accidents happen..thats why they are called accidents...He inspired stunt riders all over the world...he died doing what he loved to do...when its my time, I hope they can say the same...
My sincere condolences to the entire Lusk family...as for the video, it should stay, it reminds us that within a split second, life as we know it can change, not only for ourselves, but for those around us. Jeremy made a choice to entertain those who love the sport. He was a bright and shining star in the motocross community. He will sadly be missed, but NEVER forgotten!
For those of you that have no idea of who Jeremy was and what he stood for, one day your time will come...that big bus rolling down the street, that truck you so casually walk in front of, or however you meet YOUR Maker, so if you have NOTHING constructive to day about the dead...shut the f*ck up! No matter HOW he died, he was a HUMAN BEING...that deserves RESPECT!
Ditto
perfectly phrased...so sad though.
Wow, I can't believe you actually posted both of your comments. Your callous attitude towards someone's death is astounding. I imagine if that was your brother or your friend your comments would be completely different. So when can we expect nature to weed you out, you heartless moron!
There's always someone doing this. Go back to school and just write on the bathroom walls. If you're not paying respects, then go away!
We'll miss you Jeremy, ride on bro! R.I.P!
Why in the world are Derek's comments allowed to stay on here? If it were your friend or family member, would you want someone trash talking the person who you just lost? You are obviously paying attention to the comments, why are you not fixing this situation?
