Then the rumor surfaced that Dales backed out of the contract because ESPN refused to pay for her not to fly coach when she traveled around the country. This rumor was, purportedly, confirmed by an ESPN source recently.
However, an ESPN source confirmed an Internet report that Dales was unhappy with flying coach while many of her colleagues were flying first class.Alright, the obvious, immediate reaction here is jump all over Dales and criticize her for refusing to "grow up" or some such terms.
"At some point, you have to take a stand at whatever you are doing in life," Dales said. "That's not sounding like a feminist. That's not sounding like a spoiled, rotten kid. That's making a business decision that affects the quality of your life. That was an important thing for me."
But you know what? I don't think that's the right stance to take. Dales had been with the network for several years, ending her career on a broadcasting team with Paul Maguire, Bob Griese and Brad Nessler. Now, call me crazy, but I'm willing to bet that those three guys all fly first class every week.
Presuming that's true, it would mean that Dales -- a woman -- sat in a different (read: inferior) portion of the plane than the three men she worked with. Which gives her, in my mind, a pretty good excuse for making that a sticking point.

She is absolutely ridiculous... Pay your dues... It takes years to get the first class ticket in the contract...

I don't agree especially when her colleagues were all being given better treatment. She's part of a broadcast team. Why should she be treated any differently?
I'm sure Erin Andrews has to fly coach and she hasn't been there much longer than Stacey Dales. Stacey is right in taking a stance and it proves yet again how ridiculous ESPN is.

You don't have any clue what you're talking about. She didn't have any "dues" to pay. She already paid them when she put in her first year with ESPN. And "dues" are such a rediculous concept anyway. You get a job, you get the perks or you don't (after your probation period of course). I think the execs at ESPN are all dumb jocks anyway. I mean, who else wants to sit around and watch sports 24/7/365. Get a life and at the same time quit paying absolutely sickening salaries to the "Sports Stars". People are homeless and hungry......here.....in the Proud to be American USA. It's rediculous that this has even come up thinking about it. lol...... Get off your lards and PLAY some sports k?

"REDICULOUS" ESPN'S rediculous? How many reporters have they lost in the last 20yrs? Not many!!! Thats a sign its a good company. She signed the contract, its her fault not ESPN'S. BUT SHE'S ON A TEAM!! What do you think they huddle together and get on the plane at the same time? Thats not how it works. These guys and girls live all over the country and meet in whatever site for the week. If she thinks that the seat is changing her "quality of life" then so be it. SEE YA!!!

She has the same rights as the men on her team. She should be given the same benefits. If her bosses were trying to cut expenses, the men should have been downgraded to coach.
To all of you spelling geniuses out there -- the word is "ridiculous", not "rediculous."

Read the article because it says she had been there several years so I think she has paid her dues and deserves first class.

None of the sideline reporters get first class. She isn't a top tier host. Should she be paid as they are also? Come on you liberal babies... LIFE ISN'T FAIR. She is lucky to have a job. If all the people in her position are getting first class flights, then she could cry. ALL THE PEOPLE IN HER SPOT FLY COACH. She can quit and she did but to think she is getting poor treatment is stupid.

It's obvious you do a lot of contract writing and decide which perks employees get since you seem to know first class tickets dont come for years. I am wondering......Do you work for ESPN or another company. FYI.....Bob Knight was just hired by ESPN a few weeks ago....when will he get an upgrade to first class???

TO:...Dukesplacepme......Did you not read the entire article above? To your idiotic remark that she "pay her dues...", I am inserting a quote here from the writer of the article who goes on to state....."Dales had been with the network for several years..."
Now what part of not paying her dues is YOUR problem? If anything, you are the ridiculous one in NOT knowing she HAS paid her dues!
In this country of ours, we still have a DOUBLE SET OF STANDARDS when it comes between Women & Men doing the SAME JOB but getting PAID LESS whether monetary or benefits and perks of the job!!!!!
This is blatant BIAS and PREDJUDICE.

Right on. She needs to earn her place. If it were a new male reporter he'd have to earn it too. In the first few years of Griese's, etc. careers do you think they flew first class? They probably took the bus. It's not a male female thing, it's a whiner thing. She's a whiner and broke her contract. Nobody is entitled in this world, we need to earn it.

How long did Paul Maguire , Bob Griese and Brad Nessler have to fly in Coach before being upgraded to First Class ? Oh that's right...they never paid their dues because they didn't have to, they're men.

Quite honestly, with companies proclaiming to be doing so poorly right now, none of them should be flying first class. ESPN should pay ticket price for standard seats and tell them if they want coach, to pay the rest.
Spoiled brat syndrome has spread deep and wide into America, and it is part of what has gotten us where we are today.

MOST important IT WAS HER DECISION. AND YES WHATEVER CLASS SHE DESIRES SHE SHOULD HAVE, DUES HAVE BEEN PAID, OVER AND OVER. EQUALITY FOR ALL!
Senority is not always the best scale. Hard work, effort, dedication, equal opportunity for equal work.

Apparently her contract doesn't include first class airfare. This isn't a gender or race issue it's a contract issue and if first class travel is that important to her it should have been negotiated. Either she didn't ask for it or she doesn't have the leverage to demand it. Is this fair, maybe not, but when are contracts always fair. Either make it part of the contract or don't accept the contract and find another job.

Your principles are impotrtant. I'm glad she has them and can make decisions for herself. If you don't have principles then you would probably think she was silly for doing this. Stand up for what you believe is right.

"Dales was unhappy with flying coach while many of her colleagues were flying first class." Notice it didn't say ALL colleagues.
She's a whiner and is now free to use her own "Principle" ($) to pay for First Class while she's looking for another teleprompter to read for some other "Talking Head Sports Show". Good luck to her !
BWAH HAHAHAH!
