Nine players have been suspended by the Romanian Rugby Federation after a brawl broke out in the opening minutes of a game between league rivals Dinamo Bucaresti and Farul Constata in Bucharest on Saturday.
Pushing and shoving began in a scrum and escalated into punching, and eventually most of the players on both teams were involved. The game eventually was finished (Dinamo Bucaresti won) but only after referees ejected two players.
ITN reports that the Romanian Rugby Federation suspended two Farul players and seven Dinamo players, plus the Dinamo trainer, the Farul president and a Farul coach. All of the suspensions are for between seven and ten games. The Rugby Federation issued a statement saying it "condemned the players for conduct devoid of fair-play."
