A Spanish man was gored to death when a bull's horns pierced his neck, heart and lungs at the running of the bulls in Pamplona on Friday. It was the first goring death at the world-famous festival since a 22-year-old American was killed by a bull in 1995.Event organizers identified the deceased as 27-year-old Daniel Jimeno Romero, 27, from the town of Alcalade Henares near Madrid. Romero is the 15th person to die in the running of the bulls, which began in 1911 and were made famous around the world in Ernest Hemingway's 1926 novel The Sun Also Rises.
"The wounds were mortally grave. We couldn't do anything to save his life," said Esther Vila, a surgeon at the Navarra hospital where Romero was taken.
Several other people, including a 61-year-old American, were injured in falls on Friday during the half-mile run through the cobblestone streets of Pamplona.

I guess that is the BIG thrill of the event, to see someone get killed. Like those who go to NASCAR or Indy Car races to see the accidents.

WAY TO GO BULL! Please kill more of these idiots. That thing is cruel to the bulls. We think it's too cruel to kill a human that kills people, but we can spear and degrade a bull for our kicks. This is the best news story of the day.

The normal reaction is, 'oh, well, he was asking for it'. But it's still a tragedy, esp. for those of his family that were left behind. I hope they supported him in his death wish when he entered that psychotic race. If not, the people who get left behind are the real ones who get 'gored'.

It's a tradition! You and I don't have to do it or like it. It's their right to take foolish chances. 15 deaths in 99 years is an infinitesimal number given the hundreds of thousands of participants. Just another frolic gone bad.

So very sad for the families of those killed by this "cultural tradition". This is not an activity worth ending your life for. I am amazed that the Spanish Govt allows it to continue.

Well, deaths are rare, as the lead-in indicates. The guy might have been a little apprehensive, but was then told something along the lines of, "Oh, people only die when they get careless. You might get injured, but nothing a day in the hospital can't fix. And it's a lot of fun!"
I can't say, of course, that this guy needed to be convinced by someone else, but the statistics can easily be interpreted in exactly that way. Only 15 people have died in this particular event since 1910, including this man, and injuries tend to be minor.
As for me, I'm opposed to bullfighting. I can't believe these blood 'sports' still exist in our modern age. This "Running of the Bulls" thing only exists because of the bullfights that will take place afterward, of course, but I'm not opposed to it, specifically.
