Running of BullsA Spanish man was gored to death when a bull's horns pierced his neck, heart and lungs at the running of the bulls in Pamplona on Friday. It was the first goring death at the world-famous festival since a 22-year-old American was killed by a bull in 1995.

Event organizers identified the deceased as 27-year-old Daniel Jimeno Romero, 27, from the town of Alcalade Henares near Madrid. Romero is the 15th person to die in the running of the bulls, which began in 1911 and were made famous around the world in Ernest Hemingway's 1926 novel The Sun Also Rises.

"The wounds were mortally grave. We couldn't do anything to save his life," said Esther Vila, a surgeon at the Navarra hospital where Romero was taken.

Several other people, including a 61-year-old American, were injured in falls on Friday during the half-mile run through the cobblestone streets of Pamplona.
