Knife-Wielding Soccer Fan Attacks Player in Bolivia, Game Canceled

A soccer game in Bolivia was called off Tuesday when a knife-wielding fan ran onto the field and attacked a player.

Police grabbed the fan and the player was not injured, but the game, between Blooming of Bolivia and River Plate of Uruguay, was halted.

CCTV quotes River Plate player Juan Ramon Carrasco:
"These are things that happen out of desperation. It happens because soccer is huge here. I was here for the farewell of Marc Antonio "Diablo" Etechverry and it was like this. The people get involved. It is a shame but you can't judge everyone the same. Perhaps he is a maladjusted person. But we can't speak about all of Santa Cruz because of him."
The game will be counted as a loss for the home team, which was trailing 1-0 at the time.
