Google and T-Mobile have a lot of work to do in terms of PR if they want to catch up with RIM and Apple for a share of the smart phone market. The BlackBerry -- in all its forms -- and the iPhone are, clearly, head and shoulders above anyone else. Which is why T-Mobile busted out the big dogs for their newest myTouch Android commercial. And yes, by "big dogs" I mean "a rather terrifyingly unhip group that features Whoopi Goldberg, Phil Jackson and Jesse James." Look, they're big names, but when a 60-something NBA coach is the most relevant celeb in your commercial, well, you've probably got a marketing problem or two. Via Techcrunch.

You're missing the point.
They're playing to the middle aged crowd and covering a wide spectrum. It's the arch deluxe of smart phones. It's brilliant. Remember, who can actually afford this crap anyway nowadays? Not the hipster living on ramen and a passion to create meaningful art. It's the parent that sends them their rent check... and they recognize and can relate to Cat Stevens, Whoopi Goldberg, Jesse James and Phil Jackson... or at least one of them. It shows variety, promise and individuation-- and considering the sheepification apple causes, it's a breath of fresh air. With all the stupid, vain, pointless commercials today... I find this to be brilliant. I am 24 and I can realize this and appreciate it. Maybe put down the $6 latte and turn off E! for ten minutes.
