During its humble beginnings, MTV's The Real World could have been considered cutting-edge television: "reality" TV way before the current abomination that is now reality TV that makes people famous for absolutely no reason at all. I use the phrase "reality" loosely, simply because I don't know many 25-year-old men and women are living in a reality where they get set up in an amazing apartment that they share with four half-naked members of the opposite sex.

Currently in its 23rd season (wow?), The Real World is now based in Washington D.C. which, naturally, led to the cast and crew invading the Washington Capitals media day fantasy camp. Dan Steinberg of the D.C. Sports Bog has all of the details, including the highlight (for me, anyway) of one of the cast members (who happens to be an intern with the Capitals) pulling a Charlie Conway on a breakaway attempt.
Fact: This fellow went through drills with other media members, taking faceoffs against Boyd Gordon, driving into the boards with Matt Bradley, working on puck protection with Bob Woods and learning how to skate from backup backup backup goalie Brett Leonhardt. He told Bradley it was his second time on the ice, and indeed, when attempting to score during a breakaway drill against USA Today's A.J. Perez, he fell full around to the ice, his helmet toppling off his head. During one of his faceoffs against Gordon, he kept drifting backward; "where am I going?" he asked the world. But Bradley said he was "pretty good" for such a novice.
I don't know about you, but the first thing that I thought of when reading that was Charlie Conway's breakaway attempt against the Hawks in Gordan Bombay's coaching debut:

"Keep swingin', maybe you'll give 'em a cold."
