Tiger Woods Hangs Out on Colts Sideline

Tiger Woods and Peyton ManningI've often wondered if Tiger Woods ever wears anything other than Nike-issued apparel. The answer, apparently, is no. Tiger was on the Colts sideline during the Monday Night Indy-Miami game and save a Stanford hat (Nike, no doubt), he looked like he just finished a tournament round. It certainly simplifies the "What am I going to wear today?" conversation.

Woods is an admitted sports fan and often shows up at various events; he's been spotted courtside at Magic games, in the stands at Dodger Stadium (not to mention this), and in 2001, showed up at the Orange Bowl for the national championship get-together with dyed-blond hair and A-Rod. Ah, capricious youth.

But Monday night in Miami wasn't your typical celebrity-on-the-sideline spectacle. Usually, the very important people, sporting their very important field passes, mill about before kickoff while seeming very important. But once the game is underway, they're corralled near one of the end zones, where there's little chance they'll be in the way.

Not Tiger. He appeared to be right in the middle of the Colts bench. He was front and center to congratulate Peyton Manning after that first-play-from-scrimmage 80-yard touchdown pass to Dallas Clark.

You don't see that ... well, ever. Weirder: it looks like head coach Jim Caldwell happily acknowledges Tiger's presence a few seconds later. If that had been Bill Belichick, Woods would have been cuffed and stuffed on the spot, no questions asked.

(On the upside, it looks like Tiger has successfully mastered the high-five, something he has struggled with at various points in his professional career.)

Something else to consider: why was Woods, who grew up in California and now lives in Florida, on Indy's side of the field decked out in royal blue? Just a guess, but he played in a pro-am with Peyton this summer, and maybe they hit it off. Or maybe all of Nike's aqua-themed golf shirts were on back order.
