Browns Fans Start Online Petition (Again), Demand Owner Sells Team

It only took three weeks of Mangenius before Browns fans decided they had seen enough. Fourteen years after Art Modell relocated the original team to Baltimore, and a decade after the NFL gifted Cleveland an expansion club, it's all come to a head.

Apparently, neither Eric Mangini and his Belichickian philosophy nor Brady Quinn's franchise-saving capabilities are enough to persuade disillusioned supporters that things will get better. Which explains the latest online petition, this one imploring owner Randy Lerner to sell the team.

Via the Cleveland Plain Dealer:
Late in the fourth quarter of the Browns' 34-3 thumping at Baltimore last Sunday, Corey Recko turned off the television and fired up his computer. "At the two-minute warning," said the 34-year-old Lakewood writer and lifetime Browns fan, "I'd just had it."

Up to here in football frustration, Recko posted an online call for fans to sign a "Randy Lerner Must Sell the Cleveland Browns"...
But this is Cleveland, where losing is commonplace and fans are perpetually disgruntled. Unlike previous petitions, however, this one doesn't target the coaching staff. Nope, this time it's the guy responsible for hiring the coaching staff.

There are currently more than 2,200 signatures, and this comment from petitioner No. 2186 pretty much says it all:

"It has taken 51 years of being a loyal Browns fan to come to this. But I think our high school team can beat these bums! It has never been so embarassing [sic] to be a Browns fan as it is this year! I will not spend a dime on anything Browns until we make and win a superbowl [sic] (period) True Browns fans deserve much better!"

Not just make the Super Bowl, but the Browns better win it, too. At this point, I'd think fans would be happy with Derek Anderson throwing fewer than three picks in 30 minutes of football. Hey, the longest journey and all that.
