Ray Lewis has been disrespected and, well, that just won't stand. Actually, Ray can talk all he wants, but his wages will be garnished after his post-game diatribe against the officials following the Ravens' loss to the Patriots Sunday. Terrell Suggs was flagged for roughing the passer after doing a fly-by on Tom Brady's knee. Yeah, referee Ron Winter probably overreacted, but here's the thing: the rule was created BECAUSE OF TOM BRADY. If a defender even looks at Dreamboat's knees, they can get flagged. In fact, Bernard Pollard won't see Brady until Week 17 and he's ceremonially flagged before every game.
Video after the jump.
None of this made Ray-Ray very happy and neither he nor his fedora were going to stand for it. After the loss, Lewis said "it's embarrassing to the game," before concluding that Brady is "a man ... they can be hit just like us."
Um, no they can't.
Yes, Tom, put on some slacks. Maybe some Sansabelts with pleats. Those are very becoming. It's also probably worth pointing out that Brady didn't actually throw the flag.
The NFL Network's Deion Sanders and Steve Mariucci had some thoughts, too:
"Yeah, they're going to call that after what happened to Brady last season -- they're certainly going to call that," Sanders calmly explained. He then added, "They've taken it too far but quarterbacks sell the league. You sell the league with a Tom Brady ... they get the most money, they get the most exposure ... so they want to try to protect these guys and that's what happens."
Mariucci then offered this: "The National Football League has more good quarterbacks than ever before. ... One of the reasons is because the rules are protecting them and it's very important to keep it that way. ... Because without these guys the league is simply not the same."
Couldn't agree more. If defenders were allowed to actually tackle quarterbacks, the NFL would look like the Raiders vs. Browns every week. Nobody wants that.

It's not hitting the quaterback it's where, you can't go low around the knees, they'll call it everytime. I saw it called in week 1 against the Pats for not much more than that. You're a pro, make big bucks, deal with it.

The rule is in effect to protect the quaterbacks because the league makes more money with star quaterbacks. But thhe rule is also being called way to often because of that. it makes the quarterbacks soft and ruins an entire aspect of the game. If a defender can't get close to a quarterback a split second after he throws the ball then whats the point of even trying...

1. Ray Lewis DOES, in fact, have a Superbowl ring (Super Bowl 35, he was also the MVP).
2. If you think Ray Lewis is an "average" talent then you obviously don't watch much football.

To everyone who wants to blame or diss Brady for this:
Tom Brady didn't throw the flag or invent the rule.
You want to piss & moan about the call, take it up with Goodell and the NFL's competition committee.
Btw, look at the 2 roughing penalties called against the Patriots in week 1, Monday night vs Buffalo. Same problem, but the refs "protected" that "what's-his-name" Bills' qb.
Yes, the rule stinks. And the refs aren't consistent in it's enforcement. So, if you don't like it go watch a rugby match.

and you are obviously the fan of a losing team. It's one thing if the officals make the call fairly across the board, which they clearly are not doing. It's completely wrong to make one sided calls which is clearly what happened this week.
And by the way...learn to spell before you post!

Ok, look from the day any real football player steps on the field he knows one of two are a chance, he will get hit or he be doing the hitting. There also is one thing certain nine out of ten will be injured in someway. On to Mr(s). Tom Brady and anyother NFL so called quarterback in the peewee leagues across the country quarterbacks are targets, in high schools across the country quarterbacks are targets, in college quarterbacks are targets. But only in the NFL is breathing on a quarterback let alone hit anywhere even the knee a penalty. I have in my life hit quarterbacks and truely by my own admission tried to knock them into the next time zone, but they always knew I was playing them that week and had the option to stay off the field. Now all of this said, I injured my knee tackling a quarterback in high school and ended any chance I had of going further but I knew those risk. So, Commissoner Goodell will there be a rule protecting linebackers next? Finally, Thomasina Brady if you do not want to be hit, tackled, or have your knee rolled up on you have a choice also, PLAY or DON'T PLAY.

Hey James Sapp...It's probably a good thing we don't have the likes of you running around on the football field anymore. Everyone can say what they want but Brady's "acting" was really a "reaction", anticipating getting rolled up on. The officials can't rule on whether the player "meant to" or not or we'd have to have another official upstairs to analyze players intentions making the games longer than they already are. And I say all this as a Pats hater and Cowboys fan. (I know, they suck! lol)

He was in the air when Brady let go of the ball. It is called FOOTBALL. Check out some of the other games and see how the QB's get roughed up and the refs say nothing. This was a 'powder puff' call for the Fairy Princess of the NFL.

Hey Smitty --
Maybe you'd be happy if Ray Lewis just murdered Brady. He's done the crime before -- why not on the field? You're a freakin' punk who doesn't get the game.

I didn't get to see the entire game, so I missed that hit until just watching the video now. No, he wasn't in the air, he was standing straight, after the ball left Brady's hands, he bent over and went into Brady's knees helmet/elbow first, onto the kneecap. Don't care who the QB, defender, or teams are, that flag is going to get thrown all day every day.

Can you honestly say that with a straight face? What a fag. He should have been in pink, being the Princess that he IS an all. Losing team? Do you really want to go there? The Ravens are doing damn good and the defender was already in the air before he his the Princess. Funny how they don't call the same things for other quarterbacks; watch replays from the other games and tell me there weren't some cheap shots taken on some of the other teams QB's. THAT is what is unfair. If you are going to let the quarterbacks be Princesses, do it all across the board and NOT just the only girl in the league. And then he is going to LAUGH? That is called taunting and any other player would have gotten called out on that as well. He jumped over the guy anyway because he saw that the defender was in the air coming towards him! What would you like a big defender to do at that point? The arm was out to land on so that he didn't get injuries. We all saw the replays and now see why they win all the time. Ray Lewis shouldn't have had to go off like that but we were so with him on that one, as was most everyone else from that 'powder puff' call. Even the SPORTS announcer told him to "TAKE OFF THE SKIRT AND BE A MAN!" lol

This has certainly ruined the game - You can't touch a QB but look at what happens to guys going up for a ball who actually never touch it - they get nailed with no after tought about it, or anyone running near the side line, at least 50% of the time they are hit after they have already gone out of bounds. They have made way too many rules so that now there is at least one terrible game deciding call every week. IF YOU ARE AFRAID IF GETTING HIT THEN YOU SHOULD NOT BE PLAYING PRO FOOTBALL.
