Disaster Averted: Peyton Manning Doesn't Really Hate Joe Buck

Remember when Peyton Manning called out Joe Buck during a recent interview with Bob Costas? (No? Here's a quick refresher.)

Apparently, Peyton didn't appreciate Buck taking shots at younger brother Eli, and he told Costas as much: "[The Giants] beat [the Eagles] and [Eli] drove them down there late and I remember standing on top of the bed, yelling at Toomer or one of his receivers because they ran a wrong route, and Joe Buck is just ripping Eli, just because that's what he seems to enjoy doing."

Good news: Peyton was just joshing. Buck admitted as much to Brinson on the most recent Hauscast, and he also spilled the beans to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

When asked about Peyton's comments, Buck offered this:
"I thought it was great,'' Buck said of Manning bringing his name up. "I've never been that flattered in my life. It's probably the greatest thing a player ever has said about me, that he's aware of what I do. He and I have talked about it before in a joking manner.''

Buck said he and both Mannings were at an Anheuser-Busch wholesalers meeting two years ago and the subject came up while they were on stage in front of about 4,000 people.

"Peyton said, 'You're always picking on Eli,'" Buck said. "He was giving me trouble about it then, and it's become a running joke."
There's more.

"Buck said he sent Peyton Manning a text message this week, making two points. One: 'Never been so flattered, still love ya.' Two: 'Eli is my fantasy league team QB, and I'm 0-5.'"

Disaster averted. Well, save the part about Buck's incompetence as a fantasy league owner.
