In a rather shocking announcement, Shane McMahon has resigned from World Wrestling Entertainment. The son of WWE chairman Vince McMahon, Shane, 39, says he wants to pursue ventures outside of WWE.Along with all his work behind the scenes as Executive Vice President of Global Media, Shane also spent some time as an on-air character in WWE. We'll relive some of his greatest moments -- complete with video -- after the jump.
Since Shane was never the kind of sculpted comic-book character that pro wrestling seems to enjoy most of the time, he had to rely on his willingness to perform stunts to get himself over as a serious competitor.
His most famous stunt likely came at the Backlash pay-per-view in 2001. Shane was wrestling in a Last Man Standing match against Big Show, and he took to the top of the TitanTron to finish the job.
As part of a storyline feud with his father, Shane had wrestled that year at Wrestlemania. His match against Vince wasn't going to be pretty, since neither were ever formally trained as wrestlers.
Finally, Shane returned to the ring in 2009 to feud with then-WWE champion Randy Orton. His last televised match was this doozy against Orton.
Shane was criticized by some for the stunts he was willing to perform, but there is no denying that he knew how to entertain, and he was smart enough to keep himself off television for most of his time with the company.

I hope this is a work. Shane's was one of the most exciting characters in the history of WWE because every time he came back and got involved in a storyline you knew he was going to end up putting on a match and doing something crazy. I'd like to have seen one more coast to coast before he had to go. We'll miss you Shane. Best of luck in all your future endeavors.
