Being a politician is all about appearances. And for Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt, that means putting on a happy face to welcome back the man who ruined the only thing the area had going for it: the Packers. That's why Schmitt, via the city's Web site, "... is asking for public input on the best way to respectfully 'welcome back' one of the City's most famous former residents: new Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre."
The responses are about what you'd expect. Via the Associated Press:
One suggestion calls for making the world's largest waffle in the shape of No. 4, Favre's jersey number with the Packers and the Vikings. It's a playful jab at Favre's indecisive approach to retirement. And if you're not into spiffy shirts that commemorate "Brent's" awesomeness, you can always protest Favre's defection to the Vikings while also supporting cancer research. Seems like a win-win.
One Packers site, www.cheeseheadtv.com, already has weighed in with a list of suggestions to mark the occasion. Among them: Creating a video montage of Favre's interceptions and showing it before the game.

let's see - he actually retired - The Pack offered him the same amount - then drafted 2 rookie QB's in the draft - then Brett unretired - the Team had no other choice than to take the trade with the Jets - the problem is the fans feel betrayed - the rivalry with the Vikings is legnedary - just a different view -

Brett Favre was the Packers. Green Bay was so bad before he got there and probably would have still been one of the worst teams in the NFL without him. Green Bay fans should show a little more class. What are they going to do when he's eventually inducted into the Hall of Fame as a Green Bay Packer. He gave that franchise the best years of his career and this is how they treat him. Stop the Favre bashing.

The Brett Favre era in Green Bay officially came to an end late Wednesday night as the legendary longtime Packers quarterback was traded to the New York Jets, the Packers announced.

Green Bay should have some class and welcome him back warmly. He wanted to play another year and green Bay let him go. Is it so terrible to change your mind and unretire/ It must be hard feeling you still have it in you but not sure that you want to disappoint your fans and teammates. he's human give him a break and some respect.

In his book, Favre explains that he had a lot of difficulty getting fans and sportswriters to properly pronounce his last name,so he finally gave up and "let it go" as if it were spelled "Farve". I don't know where the "Brent" originated instead of "Brett". When did that happen ?
