Good news, Jim Zorn supporters: the head coach isn't the problem in Washington. It's the shoddily assembled roster, most of which is littered with players who either a) don't understand their roles, or b) can't physically execute the offense. That's the word according to ESPN analyst Ron Jaworski, who said as much during Friday's appearance on Tony Kornheiser's DC-area radio show.
Via the Sports Bog:
"This change right now [in] the playcalling is unsettling," Jaworski said. "And in preparation for this game, I've gone through every Redskins game. It's not about the playcalling. It just seems to me it's some sort of crutch right now that somebody wants to hang their hat on. It's about the execution of plays that are called. It's that simple. So what you're saying, Jaws, is that this is Vinny Cerrato's fault. Shocking.
"I've gone through every single play offensively. Can you, in hindsight, look back and say, 'Oh, you should have called this, you should have called that?' Sure, when you have access to results, that second-guessing is easy. But if I look at the plays and break down where the ball should be going, the things that are happening, it's NOT the playcalling. It's execution."
Whoever's to blame, Zorn's keeping the gig through the end of the season, so he has 11 more weeks to win over a fan base that has taken to wearing paper bags. In the meantime, Jaworski's ESPN colleague Scott Van Pelt also has some thoughts on the Redskins' current plight. And unlike other national media types, Van Pelt's from the area, and attended University of Maryland. Which explains the frankness:
"It is an abomination that has happened because of the ownership and Vinny Cerrato, the GM, who tried to force Jim Zorn out. And he dug in his heels and he stayed, and good for him. Make it painful for them, because they're trying to make it painful for you. And unfortunately, if you're a Redskins fan, it is incredibly painful for ALL OF US at this moment."Sounds like another vote of no-confidence for Cerrato. Riggo is no doubt mobilizing the troops as you read this.

Washington-Dallas-Oakland have same problem owners!!! Do what Miami did hire someone like the Tuna to run the show and keep your nose out of everyday operations.
