Kate Lacey (or Katie Lacey, according to the post), a Senior VP at ESPN, was one of the names that Deadspin dropped earlier this week when they examined, using reader-submitted rumors, the "sexual depravity" within Bristol. ESPN responded yesterday with a statement calling that examination both "despicable" and "rumor mongering."Turns out, AJ Daulerio's editorial commentary in this instance was actually spot on: the New York Post confirmed Friday morning in a story titled "2 ESPN Execs Playing Around" that Lacey is indeed in a relationship with co-worker David Berson.
"I'm in an ongoing and known relationship with a peer," Lacey told The Post.Confirmation of the Deadspin rumors serves to do a couple things.
Berson, whom Business Week ranks as the 73rd most powerful man in sports, finalized his divorce from his ex-wife Jane in March, a source said. Lacey and Berson first found romance together two years ago, the source said. A separate ESPN source confirmed Berson and Lacey had been dating for a long time.
First, while everything that Daulerio published has yet to be confirmed, he was spot-on in his post about Lacey and Berson.
Additionally, and more importantly, Lacey's willingness to admit her inter-office affair removes any possibility that ESPN could file suit for this specific instance (the legal ramifications were, of course, one of the biggest concerns of the entire issue) and also explains why ESPN's comment yesterday contained no denials.
These two issues -- motive and outcome -- are still up in the air. And considering how quickly things are developing in the Phillips Affair turned Media Flame War, this could almost go any direction at this point.

As if this type behavior isnt going on at other major corporations! Hell the or any Law Firm that ESPN would contract to go after Deadspin probably itself has the same exact stuff going on. You'd be pretty naive to think that at Holiday parties that senior partners dont have a little eye candy hidden somewhere in the Firm. The only difference is the Law Firm isnt on television 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. I dont know why anyone would be shocked by whats going on at ESPN, that behavior is pretty much everywhere.
Sounds like a lot of f...... going on at ESPN....just wondering if I can get in on the action
LOL..Once any the holy Espn turns out to be full of crap...Sean S better think long and hard before trying to sue..Just walk away Sean baby
I dont know why anyone would be shocked by whats going on at ESPN, that behavior is pretty much everywhere.
Not shocked..just amused and disgusted by the PC holier than thou moralistic swimming in the pool that they have so violently wagged their finger at..
All the negative publicity that has been coming ESPN's way the last few months, couldn't be happening to a better cable network. ESPN is so over rated. So many of their so called experts are nothing but hacks; and don't know any more then anyone else. If that isn't bad enough, the network pimps the same teams in their respective sport year in and year out. I really believe that ESPN is on the down slide as a company; and, they need to re-evaluate were they want to take themselves in the future. I very seldom watch anything this network produces and take any comments made by any of their analyst with a grain of salt.
So, what's the crime here?
You're "going off" on ESPN (as if your opinion matters), but what is the major catastrophe? 2 consenting adults are having a relationship... and?
Is that it? Not harassment. Not rape. No criminal activity, theft, or secret taping of US confidential info.
Or are you pissed off because you want something more kinky...
Why is it everyones business if someone is having an affair. I think that is between husband and wife and not the whole world. They make a fuss over this crap and make sure the kids find out out and then the morons reporting all of this are found out to be doing the same thing but that is ok for them lol Maybe it is time to mind our own business and stop judging others and worrying about other peoples morals..why dont people just worry about their own back yards?
Laying more pipe at ESPN than the utility company.
Also, must be not much to do in Bristol, Connecticut.
An affair is everybody's business if it is going on within a company, because that employee could have an unfair advantage over someone else should they be in line for the same promotion or other job. If I knew the person competing with me for the same job was sleeping with the boss, I might not waste my time applying for the position. Showing favoritism toward someone you're having an affair with on the job is illegal, anyway, isn't it? Doesn't seem fair. I don't know all the details, as far as what the name of the law is. Perhaps AOL will do an article on it.
letterman should get kicked out ...the hypocrite
