ESPN fired baseball analyst Steve Phillips Sunday after learning of his affair with 22-year-old production assistant Brooke Hundley (who was fired a day later). Phillips, who had a history of infidelity dating back to his days as the Mets general manager in the late 1990s, has now entered sex addiction rehab treatment facility, according to his agent.
Steve Lefkowitz, who represents Phillips, told the New York Daily News that "This was planned in advance. It has nothing to do with him getting fired. He's trying to save his marriage."

Lefkowitz continued:
"Obviously, he has a problem and he fell off the wagon," Lefkowitz said. "Even though [Marni Phillips] filed for divorce, they're trying to work it out."Phillips' wife filed for divorce Sept. 14, two months after her husband's affair had ended and but not before Hundley revealed intimate details of the relationship in a letter to Marni.
He compared Phillips' condition to that of other celebs who have been treated for sex addiction. "It's the same thing as alcohol addiction," Lefkowitz said.
The past few days have been "very tough," but the axed analyst is determined to get through it, the agent said. "He's trying to get better first."
"She just needs peace. She just needs this to go away for her children's sake," a neighbor and old friend of the long-suffering spouse told the Daily News.

I thought it was a simple case of horny guy trying to get into young girls pants. Why doesn't he take his medicine , he was caught with his pants down and now he must make amends with the wifey. Do you really need to have some clinician tell you that you are hard up? You may fall back on the "I use to general manage the Mets" excuse but then again that would have made you lame. Try some other tactic. I'm not sure this would hold water in a divorce case.

This is the standard first step in the humiliated celebrity checklist. 1. Declare yourself an addict. 2. Check yourself into rehab because "I really want to get better." 3. Wait a few weeks until things cool off. 4. Declare yourself cured and apologize to everyone and their sister. 5. Go right back to what you were doing before you got caught. This is not sexual addiction in any way, shape or form...and it's very dangerous for the media and media psychologists to make such a diagnosis. This is simply a man for whom one woman is not enough. Unfortunately for him, he chose to marry a woman in a society that does not recognize any other alternative to marriage than monogamy, and he found himself in the uncomfortable position of "cheating" on his wife. If that is "sexual addiction" then this "addiction" is a world-wide epidemic and huge numbers of men and women will soon find themselves forced to enter rehab. This is ridiculous and socially dangerous nonsense.

Amen Angel, that is what I keep trying to tell these women, but most won't listen. I never understood why you would want to mess around with a married person, just way too much drama. And they are not leaving their spouses, period. I can't say I feel sorry for this man because this isn't the first time he has done this and his wife forgave him the first time. And I am also glad they fired that girl also, with her crazy self.
