Dock Ellis pitched for the Pirates from 1968-1975, and he won 19 games during the team's 1971 World Series season. But he's best remembered for three incidents, all of which are marginally related to baseball, mostly in a "Yeah, Dock did something insane again ... oh, and he happened to be at work when it happened" sorta way. He beaned Reggie Jackson in the face, allegedly in retaliation for Jackson's prodigious home run at the 1971 All-Star game.
In 1974, Ellis attempted to hit every batter in the Reds lineup because, according to Snopes.com, he felt "that his teammates had lost their aggressiveness and were too easily intimidated." He tagged the first guys he faced before getting the hook after walking Tony Perez and firing two balls at Johnny Bench's head. The line: 0 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K.
And then there was the the no-hitter against the Padres on June 12, 1970. While on LSD. Pretty sure Dock wasn't all that impressed with Gary McLain.
And now, thanks to No Mas, we have the definite retelling of the events of that day. Ellis gave an extensive interview on the no-hitter before his death last December, and that, along with some fantastic art, brings the story to life for the rest of us.
It's like a five-minute trip without actually having to drop acid.
Touchdown indeed.

This is making baseball look like a joke, all these thugs coming out of the wood work.
Lighten up dude. It's funny. It's from back in the good ole days. Dock was not a thug as you call him. Just like the Babe showing up for work drunk out of his mind. Who cares?
Hysterical story ! He has either a fabulous memory or a fabulous imagination. And I agree w/ pahudhomes...."Lighten up" nickcherryl !!!! This guy wasn't a thug, he was 'Mellow Yellow' (quite rightly) and just chillin'.
