The thing is, after James made the comments, and Browns head coach Eric Mangini offered a "come on down," some people figured all that was left to do was sign the contract and get him fitted for a a uniform. Not sure how it got to that point, but thankfully, Shockey, who came out of retirement this season to resume his career (Wait, he was in the league last year? Really?), has set us straight.
Still, I'm willing to give Bron the benefit of the doubt on his 40 time. Shockey guesses that "he's a 4.9 40 time," and suggests that he couldn't "make a practice squad." Maybe both are true, but if JaMarcus Russell can earn an NFL paycheck, then I'm not willing to dismiss anything. Especially when you see James' high school football highlight reel.
Pretty sure Miami, USC, Michigan and Ohio St. don't recruit a lot of pass catchers who run 4.9 40s.

how the @@@@ do u know what 40 time he ran? he's a big guy and big guys don't run 4.4 40s. at least his size. unless he is using performance enhancers. who knows? nba is not that tough on enhancers.

LaBron is a very impressive person. Don't doubt the abilities of such a talented athlete. Eye would not like to see LaBron get injured and not play basketball, because he and Kobe are the greatest.

Steve Nash said that Lebron James is the quickest player up and down the court he has ever seen. I'd like to see Jeremy Shockey run up and down a basketball court.
Shockey couldn't run up and down a basketball court. He's just hatin because nobody thinks he can play basketball, and come to think of it he ain't that great of a football player.
Shockey isn't the one going around saying he can play basketball. I would get annoyed if someone(more specifically the media not actually LeBron) was undermining my profession acting like it is so easy to just hop in and dominate.

There is no doubt in my mind the Bron runs below a 4.4. The guy is by far the fastest player in the NBA, which is saying a lot.
Referring to Shockey as a "star" is quite a reach! What has he done to deserve this moniker ... run his mouth? I can name at least a dozen tight ends in the NFL that are better than Shockey. As for Lebron playing in the NFL, it won't happen of course. This is just water cooler talk. But he has quite a physique ... the kind coaches drool about in their idea of a proto-typical TE. And Lebron does possess explosive quickness ... an atribute that would suit him quite well were he a tight end. Shockey does not have quickness. He does have good hands on occassion, and he is buffed up so he can take some hits. He is having an okay year thus far, thanks in no small part to the other real stars around him on the New Orleans offense.

The NFL would snapped LeBron in half. I'd love to see him run a pass route over the middle. People have NO CLUE how hard they hit in the NFL!!! James would get killed on an NFL field!!! Hey shockey, what is your income as a NFL player, how much longer you going to play? How much are you making in endorsments? Oh yeah, is there a lot of teams clearing salary caps to make room for you to sign with there team?
