So who better to talk to about the current state of the NFC and the Cowboys' place in it?<br /><br />Thanks to the kind folks at MasterCard, FanHouse got a chance get Moose on the horn and we asked him about the Cowboys' decision to go "team-first," whether the NFC West has any redeeming qualities, if the Saints and Colts can really go undefeated, and who he likes in the Super Bowl. And finally (hey, we have to pay bills, too): how you can score your own Dallas Cowboys credit card <br /><br />Pictures and podcast after the jump.<br /><br />

<br />Rice also gives us the lowdown on the Gillette Fusion MVP Locker Room Giveaway, in which Gillette and the NFL are offering fans a chance to win Super Bowl tickets, and trips into NFL locker rooms (please let the winner be a Raiders fan) among other prizes. It's an amazing tale -- you can <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Godfather-Poker-Doyle-Brunson-Story/dp/1580422578">read about it and purchase it on Amazon here</a> -- and absolutely worth a read. But even more awesome? FanHouse had the privilege of speaking with Doyle earlier this week.<br /><br />In the interview, I talk with Doyle about being a gambler for life, his missed NBA career (seriously), what it's like being an author now, how the game has changed, and how the government stifled poker's ability to continue growing. Enjoy, because I did.<br /><br />

First, news broke that ESPN sideline reporter <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Erin+Andrews/">Erin Andrews</a> had been illegally videotaped in her hotel room. <br /><br />And then on Monday night, we learned that Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Ben+Roethlisberger/">Ben Roethlisberger</a> was accused of sexually assaulting a woman in a Las Vegas hotel room last July. The World Wide Leader decided not to report the news because, as ESPN Mac Nwulu told <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2009/07/22/alone-among-media-outlets-espn-ignores-ben-roethlisberger-story/">FanHouse's Michael David Smith</a>, " ... [N]o criminal complaint has been filed. As far as we know, this is a civil lawsuit that Roethlisberger has yet to address publicly." <br /><br />So we fired up the HausCast machine to talk to <em>Newsday</em>'s Neil Best who, according to his blog, "<a href="http://weblogs.newsday.com/sports/watchdog/blog/">leaves no stone unturned as he brings you news and commentary on the world of sports media</a>." The draft lottery offers a temporary respite from the playoffs, and Tom discusses the potential implications for his hometown Sacramento Kings. <br /><br />The conversation also touches on <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/David+Stern/">David Stern</a>, draft lottery conspirator, before continuing with the <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/malcolm+gladwell">Malcolm Gladwell</a> HausCast theme. On Monday, <a href="http://backporch.fanhouse.com/2009/05/19/hauscast-23-mds-tony-kornheiser-malcolm-gladwell-and-mma/">we talked to MDS</a> about Gladwell's suggestion that the nothing-to-lose Detroit Lions should have run the no-huddle offense with more frequency since, you know, they had nothing to lose. <br /><br />Today, Tom responds to some of the proposals born out of the <a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/090513/part1">9,000-word Bill Simmons-Gladwell e-mail exchange</a>, specifically: the merits of the full-on, full-court press, and if the reverse draft order idea makes sense.<br /><br />And finally, we (and by "we" I mean "me, UNC Tar Heel fan") ask Tom his thoughts on the pro prospects of <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Ty+Lawson/">Ty Lawson</a> and <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Tyler+Hansbrough/">Tyler Hansbrough</a>. <br /><br /> Remember: subscribe to the podcast via iTunes. And is there a chance that should Gruden return to coaching in 2010, <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Matt+Millen/">Matt Millen</a> is next in line? Good times. <br /><br />The conversation also touches on <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Malcolm+Gladwell/">Malcolm Gladwell</a>, who thinks the Lions had nothing to lose by featuring the no-huddle during their run to 0-16 last season, as well as the latest on <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Brett+Favre/">Brett Favre</a>. Naturally.<br /><br />MDS also discusses what a Super Bowl in London would mean for most fans (answer: not much), and which NFL players might make good MMA fighters. Tiger declined* but we forged on and just talked about him behind his back instead: specifically, are top 10 finishes good enough for El Tigre. Also, Ryan and I discuss <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/David+Feherty/">David Feherty</a>'s aggressive writing style as well as what sort of characteristics define a hateable professional athlete.<br /><br /><a href="http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=313627933"><img hspace="4" border="1" vspace="4" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/backporch.fanhouse.com/media/2009/04/hauscast_itunes_subscribe.jpg" id="vimage_2" alt="" /></a><br /><a href="http://www.fanhouseradio.com/fanhousecast.xml" target="_blank"><img hspace="4" height="30" border="1" vspace="4" alt="" id="vimage_1" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/backporch.fanhouse.com/media/2009/04/xml-icon.png" /></a><br /><br /><embed height="27" width="400" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://www.google.com/reader/ui/3247397568-audio-player.swf?audioUrl=http://aolradio.podcast.aol.com/fanhouse/hauscast-willryan-051209.mp3" allowscriptaccess="never" quality="best" bgcolor="#ffffff" wmode="window" flashvars="playerMode=embedded"></embed><br /><br /><em>*Never happened, duh. Of course, the latter part hasn't been completely confirmed yet, but it did spark a war between ESPN and Yahoo! (Yes, I would have added the exclamation point anyway.) And Schapp was kind enough to speak to me late last week about both reports.<br /><br /><a href="http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=313627933"><img hspace="4" border="1" vspace="4" alt="" id="vimage_2" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/backporch.fanhouse.com/media/2009/04/hauscast_itunes_subscribe.jpg" /></a><br /><a target="_blank" href="http://www.fanhouseradio.com/fanhousecast.xml"><img hspace="4" height="30" border="1" vspace="4" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/backporch.fanhouse.com/media/2009/04/xml-icon.png" id="vimage_1" alt="" /></a><br /><br /><embed height="27" width="400" flashvars="playerMode=embedded" wmode="window" bgcolor="#ffffff" quality="best" allowscriptaccess="never" src="http://www.google.com/reader/ui/3247397568-audio-player.swf?audioUrl=http://aolradio.podcast.aol.com/fanhouse/Schapp HausCast.mp3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"></embed><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://backporch.fanhouse.com/2009/05/12/hauscast-jeremy-schapp-talks-favre-international-incident-at-b/">HausCast: Jeremy Schaap Talks Favre, International Incident at Binghamton</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://backporch.fanhouse.com">Back Porch FanHouse</a> on Tue, 12 May 2009 10:00:00 EST .
