1). Vegas Watch leads off the festivities today with an insightful roundup of various baseball analysts' preseason predictions. Two things you thought might be true: Rob Neyer and Baseball Prospectus are good at this; Steve Phillips is not. Surprise, right?

2). As is the norm, Awful Announcing was the first with Mark Cuban video from last night's inaugural Dancing With the Stars appearance. Cuban's performance? I give it a solid eight, especially in the early rounds. What? I'm talking about dancing as if I know anything? Oh, right. Sorry.

3). Are Minnesota and Arizona conspiring to send Larry Fitzgerald to the North Country? From an Arizona summer to a Minnesota winter; do the Cardinals really hate Larry that much?

4). Signal to Noise reminds us that Beras fans ought to know who Brian Griese is, and that if they want to crown him, they can crown him ... but we really shouldn't.

5). In honor of the crazy and regrettable Milton Bradley injury, AZ Sports Hub highlights the top five freak injuries of all time. Ouch.

1). There are few football ~~analysts~~ commentators worse than Mike Patrick. Formerly teamed with Joe Theismann on ESPN's Sunday Night Football -- before it became Football Night in America -- Patrick was one-half of the most knock-you-over-the-head team in professional football. "Now, look at this play right here. You see what I'm doing right here -- I'm showing you things that are so obvious no one could have missed them, yet I can't find anything else insightful to say, so I'm going with it! And then I hit the sweet spot right ... here! Look at that play! Wow!" Ugh.

So it's good to see that, since demotion to the college football ranks, Patrick isn't even trying anymore; he's just musing about whatever he feels in the most crucial moments of football games. This week? Britney Spears' life. Next week? Scones? 780p vs. 1080i? The influence of Eastern philosophy on web-based social networks? The possibilities are endless!

2). Speaking of brilliant college football video, Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy's legendary defense of quarterback Bobby Reid -- in which he berates columnist Jenni Carlson to her face about "having children one day" -- is a must-see. And after reading Carlson's column, not exactly unwarranted. (Aside: At the end of the video, who, exactly, is clapping? Certainly not the media, I'd hope.)

3). Weirdly, instead of fixing the things that are bothersome about the next-gen versions of Madden 08 (players seem slow, juke moves are too effective, TOO MANY FUMBLES) EA Sports is rolling out yet another NFL game. Wha?

4). I recreationally hate Ohio State, but I have to admit: they are good this year, and not getting much buzz for it.

5). Dude, if you're going to rock an A-Rod jersey -- and I love the WBC idea, too -- please make sure it's spelled correctly.

1) You know it. I know it. Of all people, super-genius Charlie Weis knows it. So why would you try to hide it? You have MySpace, and you want to make friends. So, as JoeSportsFan reminds, does a fake Charlie Weis.

2) O.J. Simpson and Byron Leftwich are considerably different people, not just in outward physical appearance but in just about every abstract sense. Unfortunately for Leftwich, ESPN failed to recognize the distinction yesterday.

3) For some strange reason -- worn out his welcome, perhaps? -- Jose Mourinho, Chelsea's ebullient manager, is no more. How will Abramovich and company recover? By going shopping, that's how!

4) Joe Madden: the Mike Shanahan of fantasy baseball, or a good manager protecting a young arm? Both?

1) ESPN columnist Bill Simmons does not like Dane Cook. He is not exactly alone in this; slowly, like a zombie waddling awkwardly in friendship, the tides of popularity are turning against Dane Cook. Realizations that he stole jokes from Louis C.K., not to mention America's collective gasp of "Wait, we thought this guy was funny? What were we thinking!?" -- that will end a career of popularity mediocrity faster than you can make loud noises instead of a punch line. Yes, Cook's time is nigh, and in recent columns Simmons has been merely piling on.

Ah, but Cook will not go quietly into the night: in an ESPN chat yesterday, he fired back at el Jefe Simmons. I smell a rap battle! (HT: Shoot Your Hopes and Dreams)

2) As a Bears fan, it pains me to link this, even though I know it's early in the season: Yes, the Lions are 2-0. (For the record, Michigan is 1-2. Side by side, something is really wrong with that picture.) How Motor City fans will handle this is yet to be seen, though I wouldn't rule out spontaneous cranial combustion.

3) All on the Field interviews Ball Four author Jim Bouton. He wrote a book. Do those have pixels yet? Because if they don't, I ain't interested.

4) If you haven't seen this video of Jimmy Clausen's Heismann bid flying past his head like so many errant shotgun snaps, go. You'll thank yourself.

5) Now Brian Billick is whining. Does anyone in the league not do things like this? Are we serious here?

1) In the midst of an refreshingly apathetic mention of Bill Belichick's Cheatergate, With Leather found this apoclyptic video. Singer dude, relax. Belichick cheated, but it doesn't nullify everything anyone on the Patriots has ever done. It's bad, but it's not that bad. Colts fans won't agree, but since when do we listen to Colts fans?

2) Things suck for Greg Oden right now, and for Trail Blazers fans who are forced to come to terms with any short-term hopes they had being dashed. Fortunately, no one handled it better than Henry at True Hoop.

3) Larry Johnson dropped gangsta rhymes that would make Curtis Jackson blush. (Salty language ahead.)

4) Tommy Lasorda's bobblehead looks eerily like Bill Clinton. Tommy Lasorda's real head looks eerily like a perfectly round white ball.

5) Alyssa Milano, now an official reporter. But does she own a fedora? Didn't think so!

1) If you have any interest in professional basketball and advanced statistics at all, the past, oh, three days have been a boon. It started with a thought-provoking post at Plissken at the Buzzer arguing against John Hollinger's PER. And the knowledge has since turned from a drizzle to a cascade: our own Tom Ziller did do two separate posts holding PER up, one of which responded to FreeDarko's qualification. Get reading, and get knowing.

2) Tremendous Upside Potential bids farewell to Mike Brown, the unluckiest, most injury-prone dude on the planet.

3) No one showed up to the Marlins-Nats game last night. Like, literally no one.

4) Straight Bangin' is doing his absolute best to make sense of his Knicks fandom. It doesn't seem to be going well.

5) John Madden continues to, like a fourth grader with free pages in his notebook, or Jonah Hill in Superbad, compulsively draw phallic images. Please, no one alert him. This is too much fun.

1) Just as you engorged yourself on chicken wings and light beer and some variety of processed potato product yesterday, you can overstuff yourself today on analysis of all the football action. Excess is a beautiful thing -- what the NFL is all about, really -- and no one seems to understand that better than the fine folks at Post Game Heroes. If you find a better, more detailed breakdown of any single football game anywhere -- I mean, these guys mapped each possession! -- let me know. I'm doubting you will. (Hit The Debriefing for league-wide analysis.)

2) In all the returned glory of the NFL last weekend, it's important not to forget the important college football storyline of the year: the complete and total collapse of Michigan football. So it is, then: Sunday Morning QB takes a stab at the diminshed giant that is Big Blue, while MGoBlog takes a considerably healthier -- i.e., increasingly detached -- approach to this week's loss.

3) Between liveblogging football games at AA, S2N reminds us of that Isiah Thomas sexual harassment scandal. Never forget!

4) Vegas Watch has the odds on how likely your favorite team's closer letting you down is.

5) 100 Percent Injury Rate spots some of the wackiest haircuts Olympic obsessives will be getting tired of in the next year or so.

FanHouse's Top Five: Italian Trash Talk and Keynote Speakers

1) The above video, via The Basketball Jones, is Andrea Bargnani and Marco Belinelli's Italian Nike commercial, in which -- according to a Youtube commenter -- Bargnani is telling Bellinelli that it's only a matter of time before he's appointed to the very important tasks of making breakfast, folding clothes, and guarding Kobe Bryant. Hey, those are all important responsibilites.

While demonstrating Bargnani and Bellinelli's unquestionable skill, the video also showcases just how difficult it is to trash-talk in Italian. Not the least bit intimidating, unless Kobe's the one doing the translating.

2) Having a graduation? Bar mitzvah? Cocktail party? Orgy? Need to spice things up with a keynote speaker, someone to bring a lot of class and even more wisdom to your gathering? Then Awful Announcing has the list for you! It's how much you're going to be shelling out for the oh-so-insightful ramblings of Bill Parcells, Darrell Waltrip, and Leslie Neilsen (+$50,000!!). (Surely, I can't be serious. I am serious, and ... oh, you know the rest.)

3) Everyone has power rankings, many of which are just plain opinion, and some of which are calculated using complicated mathematical theories. But have any power rankings ever adjusted for likelihood of Roger Goodell-inflicted suspension? Now they have.

4) After the whole LaDainian Tomlinson Nike commercial fiasco, you'd think the Bears would sufficiently embarassed so as not to seek to enrage the steroid-infused monsters on San Diego's defensive front line, but Brian Urlacher shares no such humility. He hates Shawne Merriman's sack dance, and isn't afraid to let you know.

5) Finally, only one guy could take Top Gun and work it into an NFL preview, and he's writing for us. Be sure to check out MJD's NFL preview this morning, lest you be uninformed. We don't want that, do we?

It features Chris Marin of Coldplay on the hook and well, it's outstanding -- even though the verses are just a rehash of West's mixtape track "Home" with John Legend. (Update: As commenters have pointed out, this song might not do it for everyone. Blame it on my K. West bias. Sorry.)

1) Since I write "FanHouse's Top Five" every third day, I have no room to talk about creating numerical lists of subjective, abstract material. Of course, "Top Five" really just means "Hey, here's five or so blog posts that we liked, in no particular order," but still, if lists are something you're trying to avoid, Top Five is not the place for you.

Which brings us to the blogosphere's major listing issues yesterday. After Peter King created his list of the Top 500 -- 500! -- NFL players, including gaffes like ranking Calvin Johnson (yet to take a snap in the pros) over Donovan McNabb (one of the game's elite quarterbacks when healthy), other folks decided to try their hand at overextended lists. After much soul-searching, Flyers Fieldhouse came up with a list of 75 sports, totally ranked for your pleasure. Yeah, there are really are 75 sports. I didn't think it possible.

2) Speaking of lists, Georghe: The Blog informs that O.J. Simpson has accused someone named "Charlie" -- his number of upper-body limbs is still in question, though authorities have yet to rule out a "one-armed man" theory -- so Mr. Muresan's namesake provides a list of Charlies to help authorities narrow down the suspect base. Charlie Sheen? The Viet Cong? O.J. will not rest until someone named Charlie is brought to justice. Charlie Chaplan?

3) Bucco Blog has a list of characteristics ideal for any new Pirates CEO. Hint: the qualifications aren't too rigorous.

4) Sports blogs, someday selecting every member of every team in every professional sport.

5) In his ongoing desire to cover every angle of pickup basketball possible, Basketbawful unearths the "10 Guys You Meet in Pickup Basketball" video. one notable exception from my college days: the "I-play-D1-ball-and-I-know-you-recognize-me-so-don't-even-try" player. Always fun when one of those steps into the rec gym fray.

1) We've already seen a few positives come from the HBO show Hard Knocks. But is it really a good idea for an NFL team to partake in a reality show like that?

2) Fans have the chance to play for Ozzie Guillen and Lou Piniella. I'm still wondering who considered that a privilege.

3) Do not mess with Stephen A. Smith's wikipedia page.

4) Bugs and Cranks has video of a pre-facial hair Roger Clemens trying to sell you body soap. Wow.

5) Uh oh, it appears as if a USC football coach was embroiled in a dog fighting scandal back in the day.

1) People, it's OK to be stupid. Stupidity is fun. It's carefree. It's completely devoid of the concerns many have for this world, including "U.S. Americans" and "some people" like "the Iraq, and other people like, the such as" so we will be able "to build up our future." Because when intelligent people all trying to fix the world and such as get stuck, who will they come to?

Well, not Ms. South Carolina. But I've heard arguments for keeping the confederate flag on the statehouse that were less well-reasoned than this. (Great find, PostGameHeroes.)

2) Good friends the Mottram brothers got a shot of DeAngelo Hall's message for Chad Johnson last night, a haircut that said "I Own U 85" in considerably blocky letters. Unfortunately for DeAngelo, Chad Johnson had five catches for 83 yards and a score, and Hall got particularly burned on a slant-and-go that saw Hall leave the TV frame entirely while Johnson streaked down the sideline. It was only preseason, but it's time to get a haircut, Hall. Immediately.

3) Mr. Met is a thug. I know most of us like to apply that term only to basketball players, or football players (whichever sport you're trying to compare unfavorably to the college game that day), but far too often does the blatant thug-ism in Major League Baseball go unchecked. The latest example? Mr. Met goes on a Kyle Farnsworth-esque tirade and gets himself hauled away by stadium security as furtively as possible. What next? Mr. Met shows up at a random wedding and gets his freak on the whole night? Oh, yeah ...

4) It's a few days old now, but this Airing of Grievances post on the Rucker Tournament over the weekend is a must-read. Rucker remains a basketball pilgrimage I've yet to take, and in the meantime, posts like this will have to suffice as my experience. Great stuff.

5) I'm all for an appreciation of the fairer sex, but methinks Darren Rovell -- he of the usually detached, reasoned business sensibilities -- is really developing a crush on Ana Ivanovic. Like, really developing a crush.

1) You probably heard the weekend news that Travis Henry has fathered nine kids to nine different women. When it comes to athletes and fathering illegitimate children, he's not alone.

2) Everyone's newest favorite tennis hottie has apparently been asked to host the European version of American idol.

3) I always knew you didn't need a head to play soccer, just feet.

4) While the Steelers were in regular season form Sunday night, the stadium restrooms were still in pre-season mode.

5) Oh, and when it comes to chicks, looks aren't everything. Trust me.
